Porting is standard practice: your new VoIP provider submits a Letter of Authorization to your current carrier, the carrier verifies the request, and on the scheduled date your number transfers and calls route to the new system immediately.

The process typically takes 5-15 business days, and some large carriers like AT&T and Verizon can take up to 20. Your existing service keeps working the whole time, and we configure a temporary number so the new phones are live and testable during the window. The actual cutover involves less than 15 minutes of downtime, and we schedule it so nobody notices. After the port completes, we confirm everything routes correctly before you cancel the old service.

A single VoIP call on the G.711 codec needs only about 85 Kbps each direction, so raw bandwidth is rarely the limit. What matters is configuration: a dedicated Cat6 run to each phone, PoE switching that powers handsets over the same cable, a voice VLAN that keeps phone traffic away from file downloads and guest Wi-Fi, and QoS rules that give voice packets priority when the network gets busy.

What happens to 911 calls on a VoIP system?
Cloud VoIP requires E911 address registration with your provider so dispatchers know your exact office location when someone dials 911. We verify your correct address is registered when the system is provisioned. Remote workers using the mobile app should keep their own location current in the app, since providers default users to the main office address.
What happens to our phones if the internet goes down?
Most cloud PBX platforms automatically reroute calls to your mobile app or a backup number during an outage, so inbound calls still reach a human.
