Scope

What is on this build

Two main distribution frames and five intermediate distribution frames. That is seven closets. The fiber count is 204+ terminations. The copper count is 200+ Cat6 drops. The job is still in progress.

On a job with this many closets, fiber is what ties the MDFs and IDFs together. Cat6 is the station cabling that leaves a closet and lands at a jack. Those are two different scopes, and both are still open.

Between the closets

Seven closets on one site

Two MDFs and five IDFs in this warehouse. Fiber ties those closets together. Cat6 leaves a closet and lands at a jack.

Mt. Pleasant is in Maury County, Middle Tennessee. This is warehouse and industrial cabling.

Terminations

Why the splice and the jack both matter

A fusion splice is the permanent joint in the glass. It is what you see in the photo. A mechanical splice is a temporary fix. On a backbone between seven closets, the joints need to be the permanent kind.

The copper side is the same idea. A Cat6 drop is only as good as the jack. With 200+ drops and 204+ fiber terminations, a bad end does not announce itself. It shows up later, when a link will not come up or will not stay up.

The closets are where that fiber and copper land. The work in them is still going.
